About

Nancy Phillips, MSN, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC

A board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who came to psychiatry the long way round, and practises better for it.

Nancy began her career in acute care, working with people facing complex cardiovascular conditions. It is demanding work, and it teaches something that stays with you: how quickly a person becomes a chart, and how much is lost when that happens.

She went on to practise as a Family Nurse Practitioner, working with diverse populations on chronic illness and comorbidity. Mental health kept surfacing in that work, not as a separate specialty, but woven through everything else. People managing diabetes and depression at once. People whose anxiety was doing more damage than their diagnosis. The split between physical and mental health, which is tidy on an organisational chart, does not exist in an actual human being.

That is what brought her to psychiatry, and it is why she practises the way she does. A psychiatric evaluation here includes thyroid function, sleep, medication interactions, and physical health, because those things produce symptoms indistinguishable from depression and anxiety and will not respond to a psychiatric medication.

Nancy is an enthusiastic and empathetic listener who believes every client deserves personalised care, patience, and genuine concern. She brings deep experience in psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management, and she tailors every treatment plan to the person in front of her rather than to the diagnosis on the form.

What to expect

You are not rushed

The first visit runs about 60 minutes because a real evaluation takes that long. Follow-ups are long enough to actually talk.

You understand your own treatment

You will know what a medication is for, how long it takes, what to watch for, and when it gets reviewed. Nothing is prescribed that you do not understand.

Side effects are a problem to solve

If something is intolerable, say so and it gets changed. Side effects are the most common reason treatment fails, and they are treated as clinical information rather than as complaints.

The whole picture counts

Sleep, physical health, other medications, and what is happening in your life are part of the assessment, not context to be skipped over.
